We are Great Parks Forever

Together, we champion our conservation promise to improve Great Parks, our shared bigger backyard. As the philanthropic partner for Great Parks, we steward natural and financial resources for all forever.
Since 1930, Great Parks has put the power of wild and the promise of well within reach. What started as a single site—designed to be a destination beyond distraction—has grown into an unmatched system of accessible big lands spread across our region. We believe everyone deserves the right to big land experiences.
As torch bearers, we’re owning the responsibility passed down to us from generations of guardians. Join us as we translate an early conservation promise into everyday experiences and lasting legacies.

What happens when we’re all naturally invested?

Naturally invested means we can retreat from the daily routine of the built world, we can discover new experiences in a wide-open world, and we can bond around a shared wonder of the natural world.

To have Great Parks, we need great people. It takes you—generous, inspired “outsiders”—to transform our shared vision into reality.

An early investment story

Conservation promise

Mitchell Memorial Forest was the country home of William Morris Mitchell. It was there he grew to love and respect nature and the outdoors. In the 1960s, Mr. Mitchell began to make plans to gift his family’s property to the park district. Upon his passing in 1974, the park district inherited 644 acres and financial assets to acquire more land and fund park operations. Mr. Mitchell’s vision was that Mitchell Memorial Forest, named for his parents, would grow to more than 1,500 acres. Great Parks achieved this vision in 2017, after 40 years of patiently acquiring one parcel of land after another with the financial assets left by Mr. Mitchell. Today, Great Parks Forever continues to champion the vision and inspires a community of Great Parks supporters to keep this unwavering conservation promise.
